Chinese Qing Oxblood Sang-de-boeuf Brush Washer

Chinese late Qing dynasty monochrome gong-shaped scholar’s brush washer (“tangle xi”) with compressed body covered on the exterior in an oxblood (sang de boeuf) type crackled glaze executed in a guan style. The interior is covered in a pale gray glaze with finer crackles. The base is glazed pale gray while the foot rim is unglazed. Late 19th century. Measures about 5 ¼” diameter by 2 1/8” high. The mouth opening is about 3 ¼” diameter. Very good overall condition. Wood stand included. This brush washer is from the collection of expatriates to Hong Kong in the 1970s and 1980s.
