item#: 1052209
price: $150.00
Japanese woodblock print titled "Nissaka: Distant View of Mt. Muken from Sayo-no-Nakayama (Station 26)" from the vertical series "Fifty-three Stations of the Tokaido" by Utagawa Hiroshige (1797-1858). The image depicts a group of travelers on a mountain path. The panorama of the Muken Mountain is in the background. The series was originally published by Tsutaya Kichizo in 1855 and was re-printed from the original blocks in 1891. The date of "Meiji 24" (1891) appears in the left margin. Paper size: 14 1/4" x 9 7/8" (image: 13 1/2" x 8 3/4"). Very good overall condition with full margins. Some faint bleeding of the red pigment is evident, particularly in the title and signature cartouches. There are repaired binding holes along the right margin and there is a small trace of paper residue on two back corners. Colors are somewhat faded. There is a fiber embedded in the paper at the sky.
