Chinese late Ming dynasty crackle-glazed porcelain pear-shaped vase with bulbous base, waisted neck, and flaring mouth decorated with scattered underglaze blue cobalt butterflies and leafy fruited and flowering twigs. The white glaze has a faint gray hue with darker gray geyao-type crackles. The glazed base bears an underglaze blue square form "yu tang jei qi" mark (an excellent ware from the hall of jade). The mouth rim has a thin line of pale brown applied wash. The unglazed foot has sand grit adhering. 10 3/8" high. Circa 17th century. No chips or cracks. There is significant burial encrustations and calcification adhering. From the private collection of a former American resident in Guangzhou and Beijing from 1983-1987.
