Two Chinese 15" High Song Qingbai Yingqing Porcelain Funerary Jars
item#: 1202870
price: $700.00 Pair
Pair of Chinese Southern Song dynasty qingbai (yingqing) porcelain glazed funerary jars with short rounded body decorated on the base of the long neck with a relief stringy dragon striding above seven moulded applied human figures standing side by side around the circumference. Bird form finials are on top of the domed lids. The sugary crackled blue-green tinged glaze stops short of the unglazed foot and extends up to the top rim. The slightly recessed foot, interior, rim, and underside of the domed lids are all unglazed. Circa 13th century. 14 7/8” high and 15 1/4” high. The pair are in very good intact condition with no apparent losses, chips, cracks, or repairs. The edge of one lid is fairly irregular, but it appears to be from the original production. Included is a custom silk presentation box which is in very good condition except for some slight warping of the lid. This pair of jars is from the collection of expatriates to Hong Kong in the 1970s and 1980s. An example of this style of funerary jar can be found on plate 97 (page 180) of “Qingbai Ware: Chinese Porcelain of the Song and Yuan Dynasties” published by the Percival David Foundation, 2002.
