item#: 1306995
price: SOLD
Chinese late Ming dynasty Wanli period blue and white kraak export porcelain deep dish with flattened foliate rim finely decorated in the well with two cobalt blue deer in a forest surrounded by flowers and fruiting trees. The rim is bordered with a band of frolicking horses chasing flaming pearls over waves and among clouds. The back edge is decorated with stylized plants all set against a white ground with a celadon-blue tint. Chatter marks are visible on the unglazed base and the unglazed foot rim is covered in kiln grit. 11 5/8” diameter by 2 1/8” high. Circa 1580-1620. The dish is not a shipwreck item, so the glaze is not degraded. Very good overall condition with no cracks or repairs. There is some characteristic glaze fritting at the edges. This diah is from the private collection of a former American expatriate to Guangzhou and Beijing from 1983-1987.
