Chinese Qing Qianlong Famille Rose Sweetmeat Set Pewter Jade Case
item#: 1325048
price: SOLD
Large Chinese Qing dynasty pewter round form sweetmeat tray for holding desserts configured with eight famille rose barbed point petal shaped dishes surrounding an octagonal dish at the center to form a foliate shape. Two jade mounted handles. The dishes feature a variety of decorative motifs and styles, including a graviata flower ball design on a blue ground; three graviata lime green, lavender, and pink dishes with floral motifs; a landscape against a white ground; a calligraphy poem inside a white panel set against a brown ground; and one dish with red painted stylized calligraphy seals on a white ground. The center dish is yellow graviata with flowers and a butterfly. The poem and the seal scripts advocate the traditional Chinese values of reading, poetry, and study of the Classics. At the top back of each of the barbed point dishes is a rust-red bamboo spray. The scalloped edge of the pewter tray top is incised with a leafy floral motif. The pewter case measures about 16 1/8” diameter. Early 19th century to possibly late Qianlong period. Very good overall condition. There are a few areas where there is an old cream colored over-paint evident which has worn off and/or discolored in some spots. The red and white calligraphy dish appears to be over-painted, possibly covering up an old repair of some kind. This set is from an old Scottsdale, Arizona collection.
