Chinese late Qing dynasty to early Republic period Album of Beijing Customs from the Zhou Peichun Studios (also referred to as Chou Pai Chuen and Chou P’ei-ch’un) consisting of seventeen leaves of ink and gouache color on pith paper export paintings. Each painting illustrates five to seven Beijing shop signs, each with an accompanying Chinese description. Each leaf holds a red Zhou Peichun seal. The individual paintings are thread bound on the right side. Accompanying the paintings is a two-page typed listing with English translations of all the shop signs. Late 19th to early 20th century. Paintings: 10”V x 13 3/8”H. The individual paintings are in very good, clean overall condition. There is some slight puckering of the paper at the left side and a small amount of wear at the edges of the paper. The silk album cover has separated from the individual leaves. This album is from a Phoenix, Arizona collection.
