Chinese Tang dynasty (618-907) pottery figure of a civil official dressed in a long robe tied at the waist with his arms clasped in front of his chest and the long sleeves hanging down at the sides. The tips of his shoes emerge from the bottom of the pantaloons. He wears an official’s headdress. His facial details are nicely rendered on a flesh colored ground. Considerable pigment remains. An acrylic stand is included. 11 1/2” high (excluding stand). Circa 7th to 8th century. From an Arizona collection. Purchased in Hong Kong in 1996.
