Chinese Republic period Yixing stoneware tripod censer with compressed globular form body and upright handles on two sides decorated in relief around the circumference with two four-clawed dragons chasing a pearl encircled with circular form shou characters. A pair of bats chasing a similar flaming pearl is on the back. A ruyi border encircles the top shoulder below an upright neck. The three cabriole legs extend from animal head masks. A square four-character incised mark reading “Fan Fu Chou made” is on the base. Fan Fu Chou (1900-1959) was active circa 1930s. The wood lid and tripod stand were added in the 1970s-1980s.

9” high to top of lid finial (including stand) x 7 1/2" across to tips of handles 6 3/4" high (to top of handles of censer, excluding stand and lid)
Condition:
Very good overall condition with a nice, aged patina and typical soiling and wear from use.

From the private collection of American expatriates who lived in Hong Kong in the 1970s and 1980s.
