Japanese Meiji to Showa period oval form portable wood tabako-bon smoker’s hibachi with a 4 1/4" diameter recessed copper bowl for holding charcoal and smaller 2" diameter cylindrical receptacle for holding pipes and smoking tools. A fully functional lacquered wood handle is mounted at the sides. 8 1/2” long x 7” wide x 4” high (excluding handle in upright position). Late 19th to early 20th century. Very good overall condition with a nice, bold grain to the thick wood. There is typical wear from age and use and there are some burn marks in the wood on the top. From the Sahuarita, Arizona collection of a former expatriate to Japan in the 1970s.
