Chinese Qing Olive-Brown Glaze Bombe Tripod Censer Bagua Bats
item#: 1483419
price: SOLD
Chinese Qing dynasty compressed bombe form tripod censer with flat rim covered overall in an olive-brown glaze (possibly a celadon variant) that drips over the mouth and down the body leaving the interior and base unglazed. Moulded bats extend around the circumference and two animal mask handles are at the sides. Bagua symbols are in relief on the top. 3 1/8” – 3 1/2" high x 6” diameter of the top rim. Possibly early Qing and no later than 19th century. The back tripod leg was pressed slightly into the interior during firing causing the censor to sit at a significant slant. From the estate of Gerhard Lohmeier, a Diplomat at the German Embassy in Beijing from 1985 to 1989.
