Chinese Qing Famille Verte Porcelain Teapot Wine Ewer Fu Character
item#: 1494825
price: $350.00
Chinese Qing dynasty export porcelain lidded teapot or wine ewer moulded in the form of the character “fu” (good fortune) and decorated in famille verte enamels on the biscuit. The body is densely covered in a pattern of butterflies and flowers on a green stippled ground. A central figural panel features an official and his attendant strolling in a landscape. The panel on the opposite side is decorated with two strolling beauties, one carrying a scroll. The yellow and black handle and spout are painted to resemble rattan weaving. Recessed rectangular base. Possibly Kangxi period and no later than late Qing. Measures 8 1/4" high x 7 1/2" across (handle to spout). Good to fair overall condition. There is visible evidence of old repairs to the section of the ewer holding the lid. The repair has browned over time and does show under black light. From the estate of Gerhard Lohmeier, a Diplomat at the German Embassy in Beijing from 1985 to 1989.
