item#: 1497392
price: Sale in Progress
Chinese late Ming dynasty porcelain bowl with a slightly flared rim decorated around the exterior in underglaze blue with six Sanskrit characters, each above a flower, set against a blue-gray tinted white porcelain ground. Several blue rings encircle both the rim and foot. A circular panel in the well holds another Sanskrit character above a flower. Likely 17th century. 5 3/4” diameter x about 2 1/2" high. Good overall condition. There are losses to the foot ring, perhaps caused by removal from the kiln. Old light brown scratches are in the interior and one brown hairline is at the interior rim, extending slightly to the exterior. From the estate of former American expatriates to Hong Kong in the 1970s and 1980s.
